Hinduism has a special tradition of paying tribute and respect to the Pitris (ancestors). This is commonly known as Shraddha Karma, Tarpan, and Pinddaan. This puja is performed during the Shraddha Paksha (Pitru Paksha),Which is a period of 15 days from the next day of full moon of Bhadrapada month to Amavasya.
Narayan Bali Puja - Narayani Bali Puja If any ancestor has died an untimely death or there is any Pitra Dosh, then Narayan Bali is performed for that or for complete solution. Narayan Bali is performed on the bank of any holy river or on Narayan Shila in Haridwar.
Importance of Pitru Puja — In Pitru Puja, water, sesame, barley and Pinddaan are offered to the ancestors for the peace of their souls. This Puja expresses respect towards family and lineage tradition. It is believed that the happiness of ancestors brings auspicious results on the descendants and their sufferings are removed. Pitra Puja gives happiness, prosperity, health and progress to a person and blessings of ancestors.
Method of performing Pitru Puja – First of all, take a bath in the morning, wear clean clothes and purify the Puja place. If you want to perform Pind Daan, you can do it in any holy river or pond.
Lighting the lamp – Light a lamp in the name of ancestors and offer water to them with the help of rice, barley, black sesame seeds, and kusha.
Pinddaan – Offer pindas made from rice, barley, milk, and sesame seeds.
Food Offering — Offer pure and satvik food (kheer, puri, vegetables etc.) to the ancestors. Chant special mantras to please the ancestors. Like Pitru Gayatri Mantra "Om Devtabhyah Pitrubhyascha Mahayogibhya and Ch. Namah Swadhaayai Swahaayai Nityameva Namo Namah ".
Brahmin Food –After the Puja, offer food and Dakshina to Brahmins and get their blessings. Things to keep in mind during Pitru Puja Always perform the Puja with reverence and devotion. Stay away from non-vegetarian food like garlic, onion and meat.
Benefits of Pitru Puja — Peace and prosperity comes in the family. Obstacles in life are removed by the grace of ancestors. This puja is a means of keeping the lineage alive. Pitru Puja is not only a religious ritual but also a way to express gratitude and respect to your ancestors.
