Importance of Vedas in Hinduism :– The place of Vedas in the history of world literature and culture is very important. The huge and grand building of Indian culture and civilization is established on their solid foundation. These are the oldest and largest texts of the world. The divine experience of the ancient Indian sages has been expressed in the form of Vedic mantras. These mantras include praises of various gods, knowledge, rituals, philosophy, Ayurveda, architecture, etc.Vedas have a wide influence on Indian ideology. All Indian philosophies are inspired by Vedas. Vedas not only provide high quality moral education, they also reflect the best human values. The oldest seeds of modern science are also available in Vedas!

What are the Vedas:– The word Veda is derived from the root "Vid" which means knowledge, thought, power and benefit. Veda is another name for knowledge. This is the knowledge which is the source of all thoughts about the universe, Which always exists, and which tells man in all times the means of obtaining and using useful things. In order to equip and discipline the life of man with good values, the knowledge experienced by the sages has been preserved in the Vedas. The knowledge necessary for life is obtained from the Vedas!

Emergence of Vedas:- Vedas are a collection of visible mantras by sages. It is very vast. There are four Vedas: Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda. According to the ancient Indian tradition, all the four Vedas were revealed by God, but in the modern age, scholars writing the history of literature have done extensive research on the period of revelation of the Vedas. Most of the Indian and foreign scholars have unanimously said that the Vedas are very ancient texts, but their period of composition has not been determined unanimously. In this context, various foreign scholars have expressed their views. Generally, in their view, the period of emergence of Vedas is considered to be between 3000 to 1000 years before Christ, Lokmanya Tilak has considered the Vedas to be composed 6000 years before Christ, yet the fact is indisputable that the Rigveda is the oldest text in the entire world literature.

Subject matter of the Vedas: – There is a collection of mantras in the Vedas. Some mantras are in verse and some are in prose. The metrical mantras are called Rik. Rik is also called Richa. Gods are worshipped through it. The Veda which contains the collection of Richas is called Rigveda. When these Mantras are known, Then they are called Sama. The collection of Samas is called Samveda. The prose Veda is called Yajurveda, which is used for Yajnas. Rigveda, Samveda, Yajurveda have been divided respectively on the basis of three main subjects of praise, singing and Yajna. These are collectively called Vedtrayi. The mantras collected by sage Atharva are known as Atharvaveda. Various subjects are described in Atharvaveda, which also includes folk customs, medicine, and other folk traditions.

Rigveda- Rigveda is considered to be the most important because of its antiquity and vastness of subject matter. It is also very important in terms of language and sentiment. It is the most vast in Vedic literature!
 Divisions of the Rigveda–
Rigveda has been divided into two orders.
१.Mandala order
२.Ashtak order
1.Mandala order – This order is more important because it is historical and scientific. Rigveda is divided into 10 mandalas. Each mandal has many anuvaks, each anuvak has many suktas and each sukta has many hymns.
2. Ashtak Sequence – According to this order division, the entire Rigveda Samhita is divided into 8 Ashtaks, each Ashtak has 8 chapters, and the entire Rigveda is a text of 64 chapters. Rig Veda is a huge collection of mantras in which many gods are praised in beautiful and expressive words for achieving desired goals.

Sangcchadhvam Samvaddhavam" "Akshairma Divyaah Krishimitkrishasva" These Suktas preach unity, ability, inaction against vices and devotion to duty. Many such noble sentiments useful for life are found everywhere in the Rigveda!

Yajurveda :- Yajur Veda is a useful text for Yagya Karma. The Yagya part is called Yajuh. Due to the prominence of Yajus, it is called Yajur Veda. There are two traditions of this Veda, which are known as "Shukla" and "Krishna". The difference between Shuklatva and Krishnatva of this Veda is based on its form. That is, Shukla Yajurveda contains only mantras, but Krishna Yajurveda contains Brahman parts along with mantras. Due to the mixture of mantras and Brahman, it is called Krishna Yajurveda. And because of being contrary to the mantras and being uncertain, it is considered to be clear Shukla Yajurveda. The main branch of Krishna Yajurveda is Taittiriya and the Madhyandina of Shukla Yajurveda. Shukla Yajurveda Samhita has 40 chapters, 303 anuvaks and 1975 mantras!
The Taittiriya Samhita of Krishna Yajurveda is divided into 7 chapters, 44 prapathaks and 631 anuvakas. Its second popular branch is Maitrayani Samhita, which is divided into four chapters and 14 prapathaks. The third branch of this Veda is Kathak Samhita, which has 5 sections, 40 sthanaks, 13 anuvachanas and 843 anuvakas.

Samveda – The place of Samveda in Vedic Samhitas is very important. In Geeta, Shri Krishna has said that "Vedanaam Samavedosmi". The mantras sung in Rigveda are called Sam. Sam is dependent on Richa i.e. Richa. On the occasion of the yagya, a ritvik called Udgata sings these mantras in praise of the deity in various voices. There are two main parts of the Samveda. Archik and Gaan. The group of Rigs is called Archik. It also has two parts. Purva Archika and Uttararchika Purva Archika has six prapathakas (chapters). Each prapathaka has two semi-prapathakas or sections. Each section has Ekadashati. Which usually has 10 verses. Uttararchika has 9 prapathakas. Its first five prapathaks have two parts. These are called Ardha Prapathak. The last 4 prapathaks (6 to 9) have three Ardha Prapathak chapters each. The combined number of mantras in both the archikas is 1875. 1504 verses of Rigveda are quoted in Samveda. Generally 75 mantras are of Samveda's own. The second part of Samveda is Gaan. The verses seen by the sages of different mandalas of Rigveda are deity oriented and hence have been collected in this part of Samveda. And this collection is called as Parva or Kand. Like Agneya Parva, under this festival a collection of mantras related to fire has been presented. Similarly Indraparva, Pavamana Parva are Aranyak Parva. Apart from these there are also sections called Mahanamnyarchik. Due to the complexity of the division of this Veda, the number of mantras has been given from the beginning in the entire Samhita. The most popular branch of this Veda is Ranaaniya. Other famous branches are Kauthum and Jaiminiya!

Atharvaveda- The Atharva Veda, the most unique among the Vedas, has an important specialty. This Veda prescribes various types of rituals and experiments for the accomplishment of the means required to make this life happy and free from sorrows. Knowledge of the Atharva Veda is essential for every priest. Because the rules for peace, nutrition etc. are in this Veda. There are many rules for the progress of the nation in this Veda. There are many rules for the progress of the nation in this Veda. That is why Atharva Veda holds special importance for the king. Atharvangiras is also a name of this Veda. From this it appears that this Veda is a compilation of mantras seen by two sages named Atharva and Angiras. Atharva Veda has 20 chapters which have 730 suktas and 5977 mantras. Atharva Veda has a clear influence of Rig Veda. About 1200 mantras in it are from Rig Veda. The subjects discussed in Atharva Veda include peace, nutrition, as well as many mantras for victory over enemies, for curing diseases and for protection from other evils.

Science in Atharvaveda- Under Atharva Veda, many methods of experimentation and principles of Yajur Veda are specified. By studying them, sufficient light has been thrown on the ancient Ayurveda and the treatment of specific diseases like fever, goiter, tuberculosis etc. has been described. A detailed analysis of surgery is available in Atharvaveda. For example, in case of diseases like urinary incontinence, removal of urine through a spear, treatment of wounds through water washing, etc., description of many surgeries is available here. The mantras used in daily household activities, rituals etc. are compiled from this Veda. It is clear from this that many genres have been given prominence in Atharva Veda. The mantras useful for daily life have been compiled in this Veda. This also gives us knowledge of the customs and thoughts of that time. The Bhumi Sukta, which is full of nationalistic feelings, is also present in this Veda!
